Fumaric Acid USP

Abstract
Fumaric acid also known as trans-butenedioic acid is a white crystalline compound having fruit like taste. It is an isomer of Maleic acid and its salts and esters are known as fumarates.

Use/Application
Fumaric acid is used as a food additive, as an acidity regulator in beverages and baking powder. It is generally used as a substitute for tartaric acid and occasionally in place of citric acid. It is also used in the manufacture of polyester resins and polyhydric alcohols and as a mordant for dyes.
