Acetone is the simplest and smallest ketone. Acetone is also known as propanone or dimethyl ketone It is a colourless, highly volatile and flammable liquid with a characteristic pungent odour. It is miscible with water and serves as an important organic solvent. It is occurs as a clear, colorless, volatile liquid.

 

Use/Application
Acetone is used as oxidizing agent. Acetone is used to extracting solvent to dissolve organic solvents or oils from inedible parts of food products. It is widely used in many food and chemical industries.
